Why can't I see my position?

Air Maps needs a GPS signal, and the plane's body blocks most of it. GPS signal is strongest near a window. Middle and aisle seats may not get a strong enough signal to show your position on the map. Holding the phone flat against or close to the window for a minute usually helps.

Tracking stopped when my screen was off

Some phones stop apps in the background to save battery.

On Android, Air Maps shows a notification while it tracks; keep it there. Open Settings, then Apps, then Air Maps, then Battery, and choose Unrestricted. On OPPO, OnePlus and realme phones this is called No restrictions. On Samsung phones, also check that Air Maps is not in Sleeping apps or Deep sleeping apps under Battery, Background usage limits.

On iPhone, allow location access While Using the App or Always, and don't swipe Air Maps away in the app switcher during the flight. Locking the screen is fine. While Air Maps tracks in the background, a blue location indicator shows at the top of the screen.

Why is the map's resolution low offline?

The map is downloaded as you look at it, and your phone keeps what you've viewed for offline use. Offline, areas and zoom levels you haven't viewed show the less detailed map your phone already has, or stay blank.

Before you board, while you still have a connection, look along your route at the zoom you'd like to have in flight. Your phone keeps a limited amount, so do it shortly before the flight.

Does it work in flight mode?

Yes. GPS keeps working in flight mode, and Air Maps needs no connection to track your flight. Always follow the crew's instructions on using your phone.

Does it use mobile data or roaming?

Only the map uses data, to download the areas you view. Tracking your flight uses none. To avoid roaming charges, turn mobile data off: the map then uses what your phone has already stored.

How much battery does it use?

Tracking keeps the GPS on for the whole flight, so a tracked flight uses more battery than a phone left idle. The screen uses the most. Locking the screen helps a lot, and tracking continues while it's locked. On a long flight, bring a power bank or use the seat's power.

Why does the arrival time differ from the pilot's?

Air Maps estimates your arrival from your GPS: your speed, your flight's phase and the distance to your destination. The time the crew announces usually means arriving at the gate, and is worked out from the planned route, winds and the expected approach. Holding patterns, routing and the approach can change the arrival, and Air Maps updates its estimate as you fly.

Why does my logbook show less than my flight?

The logbook only counts time and distance while you were airborne. Taxiing, waiting at the gate and the drive to the airport don't count. If your phone lost GPS for most of the flight, the logbook may count less than you flew.

What does Air Maps Pro include?

Flight instruments during navigation (altitude, speed, track, artificial horizon, vertical speed and acceleration), speed and altitude on the map, the satellite map with every lighting style, replay analytics in Your Flights, export of your flight's GPS recording, premium share cards, and the live flight notification on Android and the Live Activity on iPhone.

Pro is available as a monthly or yearly subscription, or as a one-time lifetime purchase. Prices are shown in the app before you buy.

Is Lifetime a one-time payment?

Yes. Lifetime is paid once and never renews, so there is nothing to cancel. Monthly and yearly are subscriptions that renew automatically until you cancel them.

How do I cancel my subscription?

On iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then Air Maps Pro, and tap Cancel Subscription. On Android, open the Google Play Store, tap your profile picture, then Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions, then Air Maps Pro, and tap Cancel.

Pro stays active until the end of the period you've paid for. A lifetime purchase has nothing to cancel.

What happens to my flights if I cancel?

Nothing. Your flights stay on your phone, and Your Flights, the replays and the free share cards keep working. Only the Pro views lock again. Subscribe again and they're back, for every flight you've recorded.

How do I restore Pro on a new phone?

Open Profile, tap Air Maps Pro, then Restore purchase, signed in with the same Apple Account or Google account you bought it with. This works for subscriptions and for lifetime Pro.

How do I get a refund?

Purchases are handled by Apple or Google, and so are refunds. On iPhone, request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. On Android, follow Google Play's refund steps. If you run into trouble, email me.

How do I delete a flight?

Open Profile and, under Your flights, tap See all flights (or See your flight if you have one). Tap the menu on the flight's card and choose Delete. A deleted flight can't be recovered. Uninstalling Air Maps deletes all your flights from this phone.

Can I use Air Maps to navigate?

No. Air Maps is for information and fun. Positions and times are estimates and can be wrong or missing, so never use it for navigation or safety decisions, and always follow the crew's instructions. See the Terms of use.
