Privacy policy

Your flights stay on your phone. Air Maps has no accounts and no servers of its own. Your flights, photos and name stay on this device, and your location is never sent to me. A few things do leave your phone: the Mapbox map software also receives your location and usage data, which you can turn off; purchases go through Apple or Google; and anything you share goes where you send it. This policy explains each one.
Who is responsible
Air Maps is made by Oscar Santin Blanco, an independent developer in Spain, who is responsible for the personal data described here (the "controller" under the GDPR). You can reach me at support@airmaps.app.
What stays on your phone
- Location. While you navigate, Air Maps uses your phone's GPS to show your position, estimate your arrival and record your flight's route. With your permission it keeps doing so while the screen is off, so the flight is tracked end to end. Mapbox's map software also receives your location; see The map below.
- Your flights. Each flight's route, times, distances, phases and the raw GPS recording are saved in the app's own storage.
- Photos. A photo you add to a flight or to your profile is copied into the app's own storage. Air Maps only reads the photo you pick.
- Your name. If you add a name to your profile, it is saved on this phone.
- Settings. Your units, theme, map style and notification choices.
Air Maps never sends any of this to me. It stays in the app's storage until you delete it.
If your phone backs up apps to iCloud or your Google account, that backup can include Air Maps' data. It stays in your Apple or Google account and is never sent to me.
What leaves your phone
The map
To draw the map, the app downloads map data from Mapbox, Inc. These requests include your IP address and the area of the map being shown. The Mapbox software built into the app also sends Mapbox usage and diagnostic data: location, an anonymous identifier, how the map is used, and performance and error data. Mapbox does not link this data to your identity or use it to track you. You can turn it off from the map's (i) button.
This is needed for the app to work, which is my legitimate interest (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). Mapbox is based in the United States and is certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. It handles this data under its own privacy policy.
Emails to support
When you email support@airmaps.app, I receive your email address, your message and anything you attach. An email started from Help and contact also includes the app version and your phone's model and system version, which you can delete before sending. Emails are forwarded by Cloudflare Email Routing (Cloudflare, Inc.) to a Gmail inbox (Google LLC). Both are certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
I use your email only to answer you, which is my legitimate interest (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). I keep support emails for 2 years after the last message in the conversation, then delete them.
Purchases
Air Maps Pro is sold through the App Store and Google Play, as a monthly or yearly subscription or a one-time lifetime purchase. Apple or Google process the payment under their own privacy policies. Air Maps only learns which Pro plan is active, never your name or payment details.
Sharing
When you share a flight card or a recording, it goes only to the app you pick, such as Instagram, WhatsApp or Messages, under that app's own terms.
The website
airmaps.app has no cookies, no analytics and no scripts. It is delivered by Cloudflare, which processes your IP address and request details to serve the site and protect it from attacks, my legitimate interest (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)).
No analytics, no ads, no tracking
Air Maps has no analytics, advertising or tracking of its own, and your data is never sold or used for advertising.
Permissions
- Location: to show your position and track your flight. Air Maps asks for it while the app is in use, and keeps tracking with the screen off only while you navigate.
- Notifications: for flight phase alerts and the live flight notification.
- Camera and photos: only when you add a photo, and to save share cards to your library.
You can change any of these in your phone's settings.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask to access, correct or delete the personal data I hold about you, to restrict or object to its use, and to receive a copy of it. In practice, the only personal data I hold is support emails. Write to support@airmaps.app and I'll answer within one month.
You can also complain to the Spanish data protection authority, the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos, or to the authority where you live.
Deleting your data
Delete a flight from Your flights, or remove your name and photo from Profile. Uninstalling Air Maps deletes everything it stored on this phone; a phone backup in iCloud or your Google account may keep a copy until that backup is deleted. To have your support emails deleted, write to me.
Children
Air Maps is not directed at children under 14 and I do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be in the app and at https://airmaps.app/privacy, with a new date at the top.
